Parade of Giants

The Giants won the Super Bowl! Now it’s time to celebrate like it’s New Years Eve, or the end of World War II.

Parade of Giants
After beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl and acheiving (let's be honest) the greatest upset in sports history, it's time for New Yorkers to welcome their victorious Giants home. And in the Big Apple that means a ticker-tape parade and, of course, a boozy aftermath.

The parade takes place Tuesday beginning at Battery Park Place at 11:00 a.m. From there it will proceed northbound on Broadway in the Financial District through the traditional 'Canyon of Heroes' route to Chambers Street and stopping at City Hall. (Click here for a map)

For those of you who haven’t experiences a championship parade in New York City (the last being after the Yankees 2000 World Series title), it's called the "Canyon of Heroes" because the route is lined with tall office buildings along both sides (get it? Like a canyon!). The confetti tossed by office workers from adjacent office buildings will make the whole thing look like a snowstorm.

Those of you not lucky enough to work on the route can line the streets, but make sure to get there early because the crowd will likely number in the hundreds of thousands. Multiple subway lines feed into the parade route, including A/C/E, 1/2/3/, 4/5/6, Q/R/W and J/M/Z. Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will also be running extra trains into New York City Tuesday morning and the PATH will be doubling it’s service. The World Trade Center PATH stop is one block from the parade route.

It would NOT be smart to drive into the city.

Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, Coach Tom Coughlin, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be addressing the fans after the parade at a ceremony at City Hall at approximately 1:00 p.m.

If you don't feel like crossing the river, or believe that the Giants home is really New Jersey, there will also be a celebration for the team at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford starting at 2:30 p.m. when the team returns from the city. It is free to attend so just show up.

Suit Up

Before going down to the parade you have to get yourself some Giants gear, so here are some places you can pick up your Strahan or Manning jersey before the parade.

Toast your Team

If you don’t feel like fighting with thousands of people for a glimpse of your heroes you can also just grab a couple of drinks and celebrate at some of these bars.

While your out you might want to stop by Brady’s sports bar on Second Avenue and 78th street on the Upper East Side. The name of the bar has nothing to do with the Patriots’ quarterback, but they have changed the name of the bar to Manning’s anyway. Great photo-op!

Whatever you do, you should make sure you avoid Pat O’Brien’s just down the street at 1701 2nd Ave. Known as the biggest Patriots/Red Sox bar in the city, it was also the scene of multiple police cars following Sunday's game, as hyped-up Giants fans mercilessly began taunting patrons and throwing things at the bar.

One last word to the wise, based off of personal experience from Sunday night: if you own a Brooklyn Cyclones hat, it looks a lot like a Boston hat. You've been warned.
